NEB Schedules Hearing for Groundbirch Pipeline Project
CALGARY - The National Energy Board (NEB) today released Hearing Order GH-1-2009, announcing that it intends to hold a public hearing process on an application from Nova Gas Transmission Ltd. (NGTL) requesting a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity under section 52 of the National Energy Board Act.
The oral part of the hearing is scheduled to start on Tuesday, 17 November 2009, at a location to be determined.
The Groundbirch Pipeline is a proposed 77 kilometre extension to the TransCanada Alberta System that would connect sweet natural gas mainly from the Montney formation in northeast British Columbia (about 37 km west-northwest of Dawson Creek) to an interconnection on the Gordondale Lateral near the downstream side of the existing Gordondale Meter station in northwest Alberta (approximately 11 km east of Bay Tree, Alberta). The proposed pipeline is designed to have an outside diameter of 914 millimetres (36 inches), and, if approved, it would transport approximately 46.9 106m3 (1,656 million cubic feet) per day of natural gas.
Any person wishing to participate in this hearing process may do so in one of three ways:
The NEB Web site outlines general information about the hearing process and how the public can participate effectively. To access the information, go to www.neb-one.gc.ca, select "Hearings and Information Sessions", and then click on "Participate in a Public Hearing".
Celebrating 50 years of regulatory leadership, the NEB is an independent federal agency that regulates several parts of Canada's energy industry. Its purpose is to promote safety and security, environmental protection, and efficient energy infrastructure and markets in the Canadian public interest, within the mandate set by Parliament in the regulation of pipelines, energy development and trade.
