National Energy Board receives application from Enbridge for Alberta Clipper Project
CALGARY - The National Energy Board received an application on 30 May 2007 from Enbridge Pipelines Inc. for the construction and operation of the Alberta Clipper Pipeline project, a proposed new 1,607 km oil pipeline extending from Hardisty, Alberta to Superior, Wisconsin.
The National Energy Board will announce procedures for dealing with this application at a later date.
The Canadian portion of the proposed project would entail:
It is expected that no more than 22.5 km of new right-of-way that is not alongside and contiguous with an existing right-of-way would be required for the project near the areas of Milden, Regina, and Kipling, Saskatchewan and Morden, Manitoba.
The NEB is seeking public input on the draft scope of the environmental assessment for the proposed Alberta Clipper Pipeline Project. The draft scoping document describes the scope of the federal environmental assessment for the Project. Once the scope is finalized, the relevant federal agencies and departments will ensure that the environmental assessment is conducted in accordance with the document. The draft document is based on a preliminary project description filed by Enbridge Pipelines Inc. on 24 October 2006.
The NEB received comments from Enbridge, various provincial government departments and other responsible and federal authorities under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. The NEB revised the draft scope based on the comments received and is now seeking public comment.
A copy of the draft scope is available from the NEB's website (www.neb-one.gc.ca) under the section Public Registries, Enbridge Pipelines Inc., Alberta Clipper Pipeline Project or you can request a copy from the Acting Secretary of the NEB at the address below.
Comments on the draft scope must be made in writing and sent to the Acting Secretary of the NEB by mail or fax:
