Links to Web sites not under the control of the Government of Canada are provided solely for the convenience of visitors. The government is not responsible for the accuracy, currency or the reliability of the content. The government does not offer any guarantee in that regard and is not responsible for the information found through these links, nor does it endorse the sites and their content.
Visitors should also be aware that information offered by non-Government of Canada sites to which the NEB links is not subject to the Privacy Act, the Official Languages Act and may not be accessible to persons with disabilities. The information offered may be available only in the language(s) used by the sites in question and visitors should research the privacy policies of the sites before providing personal information.
The NEB reserves the right to regularly review and re-evaluate any and all links and reserves the right to terminate any link without prior notification.
Requests for hosting links to third party sites should be directed to the Webmaster (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The first priority and main consideration for any link included in our Links section is that it is a National Energy Board (NEB) Web site, product or service; a sponsored/partnered/member site; included in the Industry Portfolio; a Government of Canada Web site; or directly related to the NEB's mandate.
We have no objection to third party Web sites providing links to the National Energy Board (NEB) Web site. We ask only that Webmasters follow these simple guidelines: In addition to linking to a specific page within the NEB Web site, consider offering a link to the home page; The NEB discourages the use of frames and inlined content and requests that NEB content not be displayed in a frame or presented inline at third party sites; Links to NEB pages should be periodically checked to ensure their integrity.
The National Energy Board (NEB) respects the Official Languages Act and relevant Treasury Board policies. However, some material on these pages originates with organizations not subject to the Official Languages Act and is made available on this site in the language in which it was written.
The NEB does not automatically gather any personal information (such as your name, phone number, email address, or street address) when you visit our Web site, unless otherwise stated. If you choose to provide us with personal information, we use that information to respond to your message and/or process it in order to execute our mandate. There are several ways that you can provide us with personal information, for example, by telephoning or sending letter mail to the NEB; by sending an email to the Webmaster (email@example.com), Publications (firstname.lastname@example.org) or directly to an NEB staff person; or by filling out a secure Web form. In the context of a regulatory hearing, the information you submit is part of the public record and, as a result , is publicly accessible.
Like most Web sites our servers automatically collect and store Web site information that is used as a source of statistical information. These statistics help us make our site more useful to visitors by identifying pages of most and least interest to visitors, determining minimum technical specifications, assessing system performance, etc. This statistical information IS NOT shared with anyone beyond the Web site support staff, except when required by a security investigation.
This information includes but is not limited to:
The Privacy Act governs how the NEB collects, uses and discloses personal information. However, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) governs how much of the public collects, uses and discloses personal information, including personal information that is available on the NEB's Web site.
The Board, established by the National Energy Board Act, is a quasi-judicial tribunal which collects, uses and discloses personal information in the context of an NEB proceeding. The Board will collect, use and disclose that personal information for the purpose of the Proceeding.
Please note that the Regulations Specifying Publicly Available Information state that personal information, as defined in PIPEDA, that appears in a record or document of a quasi-judicial body is publicly available provided that the collection, use and disclosure of that personal information relate directly to the purpose for which the information appears in the record or document. Personal information in a quasi-judicial record or document may therefore be considered publicly available personal information for the purpose of collection, use and disclosure without consent under section 7 of PIPEDA.
Although email is common and widely used today, it is not secure. We ask that you do not transmit personal information to us using unsecured email because we cannot ensure that your email message is secure or received by us. Your email could be intercepted and/or comprised during its transmission from your browser without your or the NEB's knowledge.
If you choose to send us an e-mail message containing your request/comments with personal information, we may forward your message, by e-mail, to other NEB employees or federal government employees who may be better able to respond to your request. We do not disclose the information to any party inside or outside the federal government unless authorized by law or in the course of a security investigation.
Whenever you conduct online transactions with the NEB, we use 128-bit secure socket layer protocol (SSL) to ensure that your information is encrypted for transmission between your computer and our Web servers. This ensures that computer hackers and other Internet users cannot view or alter the data being transmitted. This is one of the most secure forms of encryption available in North America and is a typical requirement for Web-based services - such as online banking or shopping - where securing personal information is a priority. Access to our Web servers is limited to Web browsers that meet our security standards.
Any information you provide is only disclosed to NEB staff that will process your transaction, according to any of the legislation governed by the NEB. We do not disclose the information to any party inside or outside the federal government unless authorized by law or in the course of a security investigation.
