NEB Closes Enbridge Order (SO-E101-001-2013)
May 18, 2017
The National Energy Board (NEB) has notified Enbridge Pipelines Inc. (Enbridge) that Safety Order SO-E101-001-2013 (Order) has been fulfilled by the company and the Order will now be closed.
In 2013, the NEB issued an Order to Enbridge that directed the company ensure all pump stations along Enbridge and Enbridge Bakken pipelines include a push-button Emergency Shut Down (ESD) and alternate back up power systems to operate the ESD’s.
NEB regulations require both push button ESD systems and backup power to ensure they are fully operable at all times, regardless of the availability of power to the pump station.
In the event of an incident, or a suspected incident, companies must have the ability to shut down a pipeline safety and quickly under any operating condition. Adherence to this regulatory requirement is required by NEB-regulated companies that need to comply with the NEB OPR and CSA-Z662.
